Shout Out To Great Plains Audio!

I recently sent some 419-8b to GPA for restoration and conversion to 414-16b - and I just couldn't be more pleased! Fast turnaround and a very reasonable price. I have spoken to both Bill and Steve and they couldn't have been more helpful. If you need work on your Altecs, they are folks to call!

These drivers have now taken the place of the 419s in my "Altec Minis" - which are now 414+802 (on an Eminence H290) in a 1.75 cu ft wedge. These are astonishing little speakers with just 10 watts of triode power. (I know 1.75 seems small, but that's what I got running the 414 TS parameters through several calculators.) Not a whole lot of bass, but what's there is clean and fast still very articulate up through the mids. Thinking of adding some 3124s in 3 cu ft boxes to boost the bottom end.

I bought two pairs of 419s from a sound contractor who tole me he removed them from a school gym in New England. These seem to be very similar to a later 414 with a white new style frame, but with alnico magnets. The have bi-flex cones and aluminum caps which really "sing" with treble on axis.

    Altec forever, baby!

I ordered a pair of 604-III's to Australia. Sadly, one was damaged in transit. GPA were straight onto it...and had the damaged unit repaired locally by an Altec specialist. Bill says a sturdier packaging kit is now used.

I have a lot of confidence in GPA...Bill, Steve and Todd have been great to deal with.

I'm now onto another exciting GPA project.

    Hi!

I think about having two 604E re-magnetized. Guess it better should be done by GPA than looking fore somebody over here in Germany, right?
But what might be a price including transportation - and how to transport anyway . .

    best, Klaus

GPA schickt Dich nach Wolf von Langa er ist GPA dealer in Deutschland, aber Ich denk das Werner billiger ist.

The white frame can be older or newer.... the cobalt shortage that led to discontinuing Alnico came way later. For some reason Altec made the white frames for certain series...they tend to be "extended range" ie Biflex or Musical instrument...but the series determines frame color rather than age or frame style.

I am sure there exist pairs of white frame woofers and black frame musical instrument..I have seen the latter...
Your neighbors called. They like your music.
